The Soldier's Creed

I am an American Soldier.
I am a Warrior and a member of a team.
I serve the people of the United States and live the Army Values.

I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.

I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.
I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.
I am an expert and I am a professional.
I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy the enemies of the
United States of America in close combat.
I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.
I am an American Soldier.

I served with the 1st Aviation Brigade, 52nd Combat Aviation Battalion in Pleiku, South Vietnam (in the Central Highlands)

I was assigned to the  119th Assault Helicopter Company's, 94th Medical Detachment.

I was an E-5 and worked out of the Camp Holloway Dispensary and on flight status with the 119th AHC.

My Nickname was "The D.J."

(I answered the Dispensary phone once by saying, "WROV" (the Radio Station I worked for in Roanoke, VA using the air-name Marty Shayne, before and after Vietnam) - it was the Commander on the phone - that is where I got the Nickname)

I came home from Vietnam on May 17, 1969

What Is A Veteran?

A "Veteran" -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to, and including his life."

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I am a Member of the following Veteran Organizations.

'Lord, keep our servicemen and women safe,
whether they serve at home or overseas.
Hold them in your loving hands and protect them as they protect us.'

Let's all keep those currently serving and those who have gone before in our thoughts. They are the reason for the many freedoms we enjoy.

'In God We Trust.'

"Girls like to marry an Army Man - he can cook, sew, and make beds, and is in good health, and he's already used to taking orders."

"When the Florida Dude joined the Army, it was illegal to be homosexual.
Then it became optional.
I got out before it became mandatory."
